Curriculum & Courses

Course & Curriculum Overview

Every period will offer both an elective choice and a “core” choice, so students can truly customize their schedule to meet their individual interests.  Specific courses may change each year, but the following subjects are offered:

  • Science / STEM

  • Language Arts

  • Math

  • Social Studies

  • PE

  • Art

  • Culinary Arts

  • Music / Instrument

  • Other electives

All Options courses encourage social/cooperative learning and hands-on activities to support building relationships and connections to peers

Requesting Courses

  • Grades K-2: Students are enrolled in classes based upon their grade level, so parents do not need to complete the course request form. Depending on the number of students that are enrolled at PSD Options, students may be in a classroom with grade-level peers or with a mixture of students in grades K-2. Note: Kindergartners must be 5 years old on or before  October 1.

  • Grades 3-8: Students and parents complete a course request form to indicate a first, second, and third choice preference for each class period of the day. We then build schedules for students and make every effort to place students in their first or second choices for each period of the day. Many classes are multi-grade level with typical grade ranges like 3rd-5th grade or 6th-8th grade so that we can offer more flexibility and choice to students.
